World Famous Jazz Guitarist &
Acclaimed Violinist John Stowell and Paul Patterson

Tuesday April 3^rd at 7:00 p.m.
Doors will open at 6:30 p.m.
World renowned jazz guitarist John Stowell will return to the Cannon Beach History
Center & Museum with acclaimed violinist Paul Patterson. Stowell and
Patterson have both traveled the world performing for many years, first meeting
and playing together in the 80′s. John Stowell was
the first American Jazz performer to appear in Russia after the fall of the Iron
Curtain and he continued to sell out performances there for two decades
after.

Paul Patterson plays violin
in the Cincinnati Symphony, Pops Orchestras, and has been a featured soloist on
a number of instruments including the bouzouki and the mandolin, among others.
When not busy playing professionally Patterson keeps himself busy playing at
jazz clubs throughout his hometown of Cincinnati.  If you missed Stowell’s January performance, here is
another opportunity to see this amazing musician in action!
Tickets are $7 Adults
and $2 Children

fund upcoming events including future concert series, lectures, exhibit, and
field trips.

Evolution Revolution Lecture by Dr.
Cameron M. Smith

Wednesday April 11th at 6:30 p.m.

Dr. Smith will
be presenting over 30 years of genomic and ecosystems studies that have brought
modern understanding of evolution to a tipping point.
Smith’s interest in evolution began in the late 80′s,
while studying with Harvard University’s archaeology field school program at the
Leakey research station in Northern Kenya. Dr. Smith has a Ph.D in Archaeology
from Canada’s Simon Fraser University and is a respected scholar, who has
published his scientific works in journals, such as the American Journal of
Physical Anthropology. He has also been published in popular magazines such as
Scientific American MIND, Archaeology
Magazine, South American Explorer, Spaceflight, Skeptical Inquirer, The Next
Step, and The Bulletin of
Primitive Technology.

Dr. Smith will
also be discussing his newest book The Fact of Evolution.
Smith’s books have been endorsed by the American Association of the Advancement
of Science, the Center for Science and Education, as well as by the National
Science Teachers Association.

Earth Day Celebration ~ Sunday April
22^nd    Your Green Abode Lecture by Author Tara
Rae Miner

Author Tara Rae Miner will be celebrating
Earth Day with us by presenting different ways to make our homes greener.  Miner
grew up in a small logging town here in the Pacific Northwest and received her
degree in science from the Environmental Studies
Program at the University of Montana. She is an accredited author and
environmentalist. She received the Pushcart Prize for her work as an editor at
the Onion. Miner has appear on numerous Environmental panels, as well as journal
boards, and acted as a judge for the recent annual Reed Environmental Writing
Award. Miner’s love of the rivers, forests, and mountains of the Pacific
Northwest inspired her to write her latest book Your Green Abode.
Miner will discuss various reasons why
making your home greener is better on the environment and on the pocket book.
This Lecture will begin at 6 p.m.  It
is FREE and open to the public. Lodging for this lecturer is provided
by The Surfsand
Resort

  We were able to get the front bed so it faces south.

     Wasn’t quite enough room for all the furniture in the same spots, and we had to move the fireplace up front to keep the walkway clear for ada.

  The bathroom is a bit bigger, and got grab bars around the toilet today.   

      The bedroom is pretty much the same. We put in an extra vanity and tv, like #5 has.

   The kitchen is basically in the same place, but because of the bathroom size we didn’t have quite enough room for the larger fridge.

We are finally open completely. This weekend #8 finally came together, after every thing that could go wrong seemed to. Below are some final finishing pics, and I hope to take more photos and update the rooms page so you all can see everything. Now on to outside work…..

Hearth for the gas stove

  The kitchen area is a bit smaller than before to acccomodate the larger bathroom. It was a challenge getting everything in, and we ended up switching to a smaller fridge that JUST BARELY went in.

Everyone has been very busy this week putting things back together. We just have 12 and 8 to finish. 12 should be up on Monday or Tuesday, and 8 will be ready on Thursday. We are really pleased with the way things turned out. Here are some pics of 13:

We really love the gas stoves, they look cute on the hearths.. Much of what we have been doing the last couple days is just clean up. We put in some new shelves in the garage and downstairs laundry room. Stowed away extra new bedspreads, and are still trying to empty the garage so we can put our cars in. I think that will be the end of the week.

We are working outside one thing at a time. Here are the finished posts on the patio…

We just strung some hose and caution tape through temporarily. I think we are going to use anchor chain to make it look something like this…

We finished up puring concrete this week. We now have the posts back on the patio.          

We finished up around the boiler room:

Fixing some rot that went quite a ways up the firewall between us and Surfsand:

At last ! They poured the ramp down by 10 & 11. Makes it so much easier to get around:   And around 8 and 9:

And YES! We have carpet down in 10 thru 13, and will be setting up furniture in them today.  

The carpet cleaners are coming today, so we can get those set back up. #8 is fully sheetrocked and ready to be textured. I will try to get some pics later today and post them. Stay tuned….

Since the storage container we had in the parking lot left a week ago Friday, we dug out the rest of the old restaurant footings, and leveled up the lot.      

Had a brief visit from the concrete guy, and they built a nifty little wall around the gas meter. Jarred it a little, though, and we had to call the gas company to come and fix the leak.   

The tile guys got to work on Monday, and they re laid the entry tile in two hallways and four kitchens. We knew we had sandstone tile left over from the last time, but didn’t realize it was 16 boxes, so thay look just the same.

We finished replacing all the downstairs windows, and all the siding is actually on now…      

We also poured the sidewalk in front of the office on Friday. The forms are still up, so you can see it sided and finished next week.   

They have #8 framed in and ready for sheetrock this week The electrical inspector is due on Tuesday…  

 We are done with the drywall repairs now, and on to painting, Finished up #9 today, and they will begin working in 8 tomorrow.

And the finished product:     They will be finishing up siding this week. Unfortunately, it does not look like we will be able to get all the windows in before we open, so we will have to work on the upstairs through the spring . (Darn)

The storage container left on Friday. It is good to have it gone, and McEwan’s will be finishing up the parking lot this week. Hopefully we will finish up the rest of the concrete this week.   Units 10 thru 13 are moving right along. We have been painting this week, and got the vinyl down in the bathrooms:      Plaster repair:  

The tile guy is coming on Monday, so we hopefully will get the tile down and carpet laid in 10-13 this week. We got the upper kitchen cabinets in, and will get the lower and sinks when the tile is done.

We are finishing up in my mom’s bedroom, so she can move back out of 7. Lucky really wants to go back home. he hates to go in the car with us, and hates staying home or with a baby sitter, so his life has been difficult. He misses looking out from his new door:   Til next week……

Coaster began putting in Windows on Thursday. We are enjoying BEAUTIFUL weather again. Check out this pic taken by Kim Blumenstein – looks like a postcard doesn’t it? I think she did this on her iphone.

The concrete guys were here VERY early on Thursday, and were gone before I realized. They poured the wall outside of unit 8. We were all anxious to see what it looks like, as Darrel always has a plan, but is sometimes reluctant to share it:       We have been working hard at cleaning up, and are beginning to paint in 10 , 11, 12, and 13. Our kitchen is looking much better:   Floors are covered in 12:   The tile guy will be here the end of this week.
